A Budget Without Reorientation – The CSV’s Assessment

This year’s municipal budget was drafted in an unprecedented political context.
Following the collapse of the previous CSV/DP coalition, a budget is now in place supported by a new LSAP/DP majority. One point needs to be emphasized: in its fundamental structure, this budget remains true to the CSV/DP program presented in December 2025. Consequently, it is impossible to speak of a new political departure.

The new majority has not implemented any substantive reforms, but has instead focused on redefining priorities. This is the main focus of the CSV’s political criticism.

Projects with a direct impact on the daily lives of the residents of Wiltz have been cancelled or significantly reduced: the long-planned daycare center in the Rue des Pêcheurs, investments in playgrounds, waste sorting in schools, and key elements of the circular economy. Cultural, leisure, and community projects – such as the Maison de la Culture at the Wunne mat der Wooltz site – have also been removed from the budget! These are not luxury projects, but investments in quality of life, family well-being, and sustainable development.

At the same time, necessary acquisitions such as vehicles and technical equipment are no longer being made through direct investment, but instead via leasing contracts. While this may provide short-term relief, it places a heavy long-term burden on the current budget and deprives the municipality of permanent ownership. This is not the right way to implement budgetary constraints.

The CSV acknowledges that the majority has defined new priorities, such as the creation of a sports coordinator position and the commissioning of additional studies. However, in our view, these measures do not address the most urgent challenges: security, functional infrastructure, and basic social services. It is particularly incomprehensible that, despite population growth, positions are being eliminated at the very moment when new projects and studies are being funded.

CSV Wiltz also regrets the current political situation. The collapse of the coalition was not intentional, but resulted from internal tensions within the DP. Any constructive and stable cooperation had become impossible. The resulting LSAP/DP majority appears less like a shared vision for the future of Wiltz and more like a tactical alliance of convenience.

Out of responsibility and political integrity, the CSV therefore abstained from voting on the budget. Not out of obstruction, but out of conviction: we cannot support this budget because it sets the wrong priorities—but we will continue to support any sensible and responsible measure in the interest of the citizens of Wiltz.

CSV Wiltz – constructive, critical, and reliable.
